Our culturally rich journeys are 100% tailor-made and offer abundant life-enriching experiences. We think small, keep it local, and focus on what is best for our guests, the journey, and the planet. All our dedicated staff work closely with local guides and program directors to choose the hotels, restaurants, concerts, and activities to ensure we deliver the magically orchestrated program you expect. We each accompany a few trips every year to renew old friendships and meet up again with our many return alumni, and we always look forward to meeting new guests.

The curious leading the curious:
Our dedicated network of Field Leaders comprises top-tier experts spanning a broad range of subjects. Born with an innate curiosity about our world, they passionately lead others with a fascination for exploration and learning.
Giving Back:
Our commitment to social responsibility is a core part of our mission. We give back to non-profit organizations whose missions we believe in and support. In the last few years, we have made donations to numerous public radio stations, to the Maasai Girls Rescue Center in Tanzania, the Mama Rosie Children’s Support Center in South Africa, the Monteverde Children’s Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica, and we continue to support individual students and good causes in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the USA. On our trips to Cuba, we ask that guests bring school and medical supplies with them so that they may be distributed to the children and clinics of this island nation.
Our Company Values:
We continually strive for growth and appreciate your support and suggestions. We are far from perfect and have a long way to go to meet our goals. However, we promise that we do care, we do listen, and we ask a lot of questions.
Matthew and his wife Danna met while guiding trips in Europe in the early 1990s. And in 1997, they followed their dreams and founded Earthbound Expeditions. Matthew has been leading and creating adventures worldwide for 25+ plus years. He has organized hundreds of custom journeys for respected museums, wineries, cooking schools, botanic gardens, and National Public Radio affiliates to Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, Russia, and North and South America. Matthew spent two summers as the expedition leader on the Trans-Siberian Express and, worked as the senior guide on the historic Orient Express .En route to starting Earthbound Expeditions, Matthew also spent seven years as an expedition leader for National Geographic - Lindblad Expeditions on the Baltic Sea in Europe and led trips in Asia and Latin America. After completing his undergraduate studies at the universities of Copenhagen and Moscow, and taking some time off to live and work on a kibbutz in Israel (it's a long story) he went on to attend the graduate program at the London School of Economics. He has lived in Denmark, France, England, Israel, and Costa Rica. Matthew has led well over 300 overseas adventures covering 5 continents. Matthew continues to passionately guide many Earthbound Expeditions tailor-made journeys and would greatly prefer to be in the field with Earthbound guests. Currently he spends his time traveling (and living) between South America, Europe, Africa and Cuba. His home base is on “la Isla Bonita” (A.K.A. Bainbridge Island, Washington) with his Francophile wife Danna, daughter, Aiyana, and son, Liam. Check out Matthew's past travel episodes from around the world at KNKX- NPR Public Radio: https://www.knkx.org/term/going-places-0
Danna Brumley (pictured left in Paris, France with NPR reporter Eleanor Beardsley) is the co-founder of Earthbound Expeditions. She studied French language and Civilization at the Université d’Aix-Marseille in Aix-en-Provence and Sociolinguistics of the Romance Languages (French and Italian) at La Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. So naturally, she became a waitress. (Just kidding). After completing her studies, she lived and worked in Paris for several years, after which she was hired at Rick Steves’ Europe. Danna became the Manager of their popular Tour Program and also worked as a tour guide after training under the devoted tutelage of Matthew, who would later become her husband. Thanks to Earthbound, she has worked and traveled throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Central and South America, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. She speaks, French, Italian and Spanish and after hours can be caught tutoring French, teaching ESL and salsa dancing. She is married to Matthew Brumley (see above) and they enjoy forcing their children to travel the world (when they’re not embarrassing them with their dance moves).

One could say that the world is my oyster; I am a wandering Jewess. I was born in Tel-Aviv and raised in Hong Kong. I trained as a theatre actress in Tel-Aviv and received a masters in screenwriting from a London university. I’ve been writing regularly for Israeli media for over a decade. I moved to Berlin in 2010 and was so compelled by the city’s history that I turned it into my livelihood. I divide my time between my two passions—writing and guiding.

He worked as a teacher for 8 years at the University and also lived and worked in Egypt for 3 years with a travel agency. Cesar has led tours all over the world for over 20 years and speaks Spanish, English, French, Italian and Catalan. When he is not leading tours he enjoys being bossed around by his beautiful wife and two gorgeous sons. His love for history, art, music, food and wine are the gifts he bestows on our guests, who often remark that being on tour with him is like traveling with a good friend who is showing you around his favorite places (and knows everything about them). And don’t be surprised, at the end of your trip, if you’re inspired to chant “All hail Cesar! All hail Cesar!” You won’t be the first.

After participating in a four month exchange program in Canada, he decided that he wanted to study tourism. He graduated from the Castro Carazo College and has been guiding tours throughout Costa Rica for 12 years, a career that provides him with the perfect opportunity to merge his gift for entertaining with his love for his country. His enthusiasm is truly contagious, and he says the best part of his job is the people he meets and the friendships that emerge on his journeys throughout Costa Rica. Minor still lives in Grecia and enjoys a quiet life (when he’s home!) with his wife, Amy, and their two children, Christopher and Jessica.
